Having qualified as an EMDR clinician and also a certified Yoga Alliance International Yoga Teacher, I have integrated mental health and yoga together in the therapeutic space.
I have a special interest in working within the field of trauma and the somatic experience.
With my own personal and professional experience I have witnessed how we sometimes cannot find the words to explain our distress and often it is the body that speaks for us.
Working in this trauma sensitive way, By taking time to notice their body, and to safely explore choice in moving their body, participants may begin to develop some sense of connection to their body. You will gain some strategies that allow them to face feelings and triggers in a safe, non-harmful way
Working in this way it is not designed to take you back to the source of your pain. Its purpose is to help you become more aware of what’s going on in your body. Once you tap into that, you can work on releasing built-up emotions, stress and tension in a safer/healthier way.
What are the benefits to trauma informed yoga? more understanding of self, stronger mental health, focused, maintaining stronger emotional regulation - understand and tolerate the sensations you’re feeling so you no longer feel like a stranger in your own body and more aligned in mind and body.
